Don’t miss the Port Orchard Chamber’s annual Seagull Calling Festival this
Saturday, May 5th at the Port Orchard Marina Waterfront Park. The “beach”
band SPF-50 starts at noon, seagull calling registration at 12:30 and the
seagull calling at 1pm. There will be Awards given for: Most Authentic
Seagull Call, Most Seagulls Called, Best Costume, Judge’s Award and Best
Business (Group) Entry. Our musical entertainment will continue after the
competition and there will be BBQ “Seagull Wings” for sale as well as
beverages. Come down and enter to “call seagulls” or come down and
watch–but don’t miss the fun!
Speaking of fun– watch Evening Magazine/King 5 tomorrow night–Thursday,
May 3rd at 7pm to see the segment John Curley filmed today in Port
Orchard, with certain Port Orchard notables, about the Seagull Calling
Festival!! A great big thanks to John, Darrel and Evening Magazine for
coming to Port Orchard! And thanks to the many folks from the community,
the city, the chamber, Fathoms O’ Fun and especially the port/marina who
patiently helped out! www.portorchard.com

26 volunteers helped clean Bay Street during POBSA‘s Spring Clean-Up Day
on April 29th. The group accomplished the following: cleaned & painted
garbage cans, cleared out flower pots and planted beautiful new flowers,
painted new brackets for hanging flower baskets, touched up missing paint
on the awning, cleaned sidewalks and washed windows of our vacant
buildings.
Thanks to all the merchants (and their spouses) who helped with Spring
Clean Up Day. Bay Street looks great!
Special thanks to: Downtown Neighborhood Association (DNA) members
Shannon and Jerry Childs, Mary and Gary Johnson, Ron Johnson, Gil and Kathy
Michael, and Cindy Lucarelli. Also Bill Booth, Len Kruse, Jim Sparby and
our “window washer” Deborah from the VFW, thank you!

A great day for caring Wednesday, June 21, 2006 is the annual “Day of Caring” sponsored by United Way of Kitsap County. On this day people throughout the county lend a hand by assisting non-profit agencies with much needed physical projects such as cleaning up campgrounds, building picnic tables for summer camps, landscaping, painting office space, and organizing food banks. The tasks vary each year.
The day kicks off at 7:30 a.m. with a no-cost continental breakfast at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds – Presidents Hall where volunteers will meet their “team” and receive a complimentary t- shirt and a brown bag lunch. From that location volunteers head out to their designated work sites.
