Street Scramble – the Seattle created sensation, debuts in Port Orchard this summer –
a novel, healthy, friendly activity for all ages!
Port Orchard, WA – June 4, 2008 THINK URBAN TREASURE HUNT! Think Street Orienteering! Think Saturday, June 28th in Port Orchard Washington. The Port Orchard Chamber and Harrison Medical Center are offering a new Fathoms O’ Fun event perfect for friends, family and colleagues to participate in - solo or as teams.
Thirty scenic locations are marked on a map of Port Orchard, each with a point value. On foot or bike, how many can you visit in two hours? This is the challenge posed during a Street Scramble. An urban treasure hunt where the treasures are neighborhood sights. Checkpoint locations will encompass Port Orchard’s marina area, downtown business corridor and hillside residential neighborhood, focusing on scenic routes, landmarks and lesser-known Port Orchard treasures.
When the start is announced at 10:00 a.m., participants will go out with their maps solo or in groups. At each location they will answer a simple question, found on the backs of their maps, to prove they were there.
While many will stroll or cycle at a leisurely pace, competitive athletes are expected to run and cycle around the town. “At Street Scramble we get the whole range of people, from families with strollers to adventure racers, tri-athletes, and ultra-marathon runners,” said Eric Bone, co-founder of the Street Scramble series and one of the top U.S. athletes in the sport of orienteering. Special divisions for 50+, teens, families, and corporate groups offer lots of opportunities for award ribbons.
Pre-Registration is encouraged, but not required. Pre-registration forms are available online at www.portorchard.com or at www.fathomsofun.org or at the Port Orchard Chamber office at 1014 Bay St. #8 Port Orchard. The Port Orchard Street Scramble will open day of registration at 9am in front of the Kitsap Bank at 619 Bay St., downtown Port Orchard,
street scramble maps will be distributed at 9:30am and the siren starts the event at 10am. Cost is $5 per person or $20 for a ‘family’ team of 4 or more. A ‘family’ team is any team that includes at least one adult and at least one child 12 or under. Ribbon will be awarded and refreshments provided. Street Scramble is produced by Geographics Meridian. The Port Orchard event is the first Street Scramble to be conducted in Kitsap County.
For more information go to www.portorchard.com or call the Chamber at 360-876-3505 or 1-800-982-8139. For a complete list of Fathoms O’ Fun activities go to www.fathomsofun.org.
The question I have from time to time, not being a veteran of recycling and a 1969 graduate when it wasn’t taught in school. I searched for and found the answer, in PDF format on the Kitsap County website What goes in curbside recycling? has a nice informative poster. Now we both know.
